PET – Polyethylene Terephthalate
PET is a thermoplastic polyester known for its high strength, low water absorption, and very good barrier properties. It is widely used in the packaging industry, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. In addition to packaging applications, there are also technical PET materials designed for precise structural components.
Advantages
- High mechanical strength
- Low water absorption
- Good dimensional stability
- Excellent barrier properties
- Good chemical resistance
- Good electrical insulation
- Recyclable
- Good wear resistance
Disadvantages
- Requires drying before processing
- Lower toughness than PC
- Limited UV resistance without stabilization
