PTFE – Polytetrafluoroethylene

PTFE, known by the trade name Teflon®, is a fluoropolymer with exceptional chemical resistance, the lowest coefficient of friction of all common plastics, and an extremely wide operating temperature range. It is used in the chemical industry, aerospace, electrical engineering, and food processing.

Advantages

  • Highest chemical resistance
  • Very low friction
  • Non-stick surface
  • Excellent thermal resistance
  • Excellent electrical insulation
  • UV resistance
  • Aging resistance

Disadvantages

  • Very high cost
  • Low strength
  • More difficult machining
  • Unsuitable for standard injection molding
