POM – Polyoxymethylene
POM is a high-precision engineering plastic known for excellent dimensional stability, low friction, and high wear resistance. Due to these properties, it replaces metal in many mechanical components. Unlike polyamide, it absorbs almost no water, making it an ideal material for precise mechanical parts.
Advantages
- Very high dimensional stability
- Low friction
- Excellent wear resistance
- Low water absorption
- Good chemical resistance
- High load-bearing capacity
- Good machinability
- Low creep deformation
Disadvantages
- Poor UV resistance
- Poor resistance to strong acids
- Higher price than PA
- Limited bondability
